Last night…

Hey everybody,

Good meeting last night. Steve brought his adorable daughter Emma — he’s already got her started on a healthy diet of the old Spiderman cartoons. Winning the award for traveling the farthest is Matthew, a London.pm’er in town for a few months on business. We tried to convince him that not all American cities look like St. Louis, but somehow I don’t think he believed it.

While our fearless leader Bill took care of some “important Foundation business” on a conference call, we learned that when Michele isn’t scuba–diving in foreign lands, she takes part in ridiculously accurate medieval wars wearing full armor and whacking people with a sword. Not just with a few local folks, either. Apparently thousands of people show up to these things. As it turns out, Scott and I both used to fence (he rather seriously, me…not so much), so we’re planning a field trip to check out one of the battles. For everyone’s sake, I hope she wasn’t serious about suiting us up and shoving us into the fray…

There was some actual Perl content, too. Steve Pritchard is organizing a local hackathon to put some muscle behind a few projects that have been languishing undone. More details to follow, but mark your calendars now for the June 8-10 weekend. Add a comment to this post if you’d like to join in.

We’re hoping to turn that into a regular thing. Previously some StL.pm folks expressed an interest in adopting a CPAN module in need, so Steve’s event should be a great way to kick it off. Furthermore, he has generously offered computers and office space for such gatherings, so we could really get somewhere with a bunch of people in one place.
